We offer a large range of castor and wheel products, please consider the below when choosing the correct product. For assistance, please contact our sales department 01282 424376 [email protected]
CASTOR TYPE: Choose from fixed (where the castor only moves forwards and backwards) Swivel (where the castor moves in any direction for best manoeuvrability) Braked (swivel castor that moves in any direction but with brake pedal that in most cases locks the swivel head and the wheel and in certain products just the wheel only).
WHEELS: Size, the larger the wheel the easier it is to move (measure the wheel diameter from one side to the other). Tread width (the thickness of the wheel). Bore size (the diameter of the hole in the centre of the wheel). Choose from a range of wheel materials, generally nylon wheels offer good weight capacity and are suitable for smooth surfaces. Tyred wheels offer more cushion for use on uneven surfaces.
PLATE TYPE: This is the fixing plate on the top of the castor bracket (choose either top plate with four fixing holes or single bolt hole type which has a central hole for fixing using a threaded stem or round/square expander fittings to go into tubes).
LOAD CAPACITY: The effect of uneven or damaged floors must be allowed for when assessing the required load rating of a castor. The degree of defects will determine the extra the extra shock loads acting on the castors. When using four castors on a product please use the weight load capacity of three out of the four castors to ascertain the safe working load and consider the alternative configurations shown in our advice article 'Understanding Castors'.
